They decry the tyranny of the rich and of big business. They condemn the wage slavery of the middle class. They declare themselves champions of the working poor, striking a blow for freedom against their wealthy oppressors.
The irony that they benefit from the products and riches produced by the corporations they despise has been widely noted.
Less widely noted are the identities of those who sympathize with and support Occupy Wall Street. It is a ghastly list; virtually every enemy of freedom, large or small, every tyrannical state or group, every ruler who ever crushed out the life or livelihood of an opponent, peaceful or otherwise, is on it. So too are more than a few crackpots. Most sensible people would not want them on their side.
The names on this list include groups and ideologies which in the last century were responsible for more mass enslavement, misery, and death than any others in all of human history. What Winston Churchill said of democracy in the political world is equally true of capitalism in the economic – it's the worst system out there – except for all the others.
